ENGINEERED TO PERFORM

The Trohet R is our reference standmount speaker, designed for exceptional clarity, precise imaging and a natural, balanced sound.

Scan-Speak Revelator drivers and an advanced passive crossover provide the low distortion, accurate frequency response and phase integration behind its performance.

THE VALUE OF DIY

Building your own speakers means more of your budget goes into the components that actually produce the sound.

By removing much of the labour, distribution and traditional retail costs, the Trohet R uses the same calibre of drivers and components found in significantly more expensive commercial loudspeakers.

You do the building. We provide the engineering, components and instructions.

TESTIMONIALS

"Hi Atlas

The upgraded Trohets (R) got a fair work out over the weekend, mostly with vinyl.  I played everything from Elvis and Aretha Franklin, TOOL, Daft Punk through to Miles Davis and Tash Sultana.  What stands out is the silence/separation between the instruments and vocals.  Its breathtaking.  It draws you deeper into the music almost as though it’s the first time you have heard the song.

Very happy with the upgrade and would recommend it to anyone who is interested."

Phillip Manczak

"I recently purchased and built a Trohet R system. Well, before that I built a regular Trohet system which was simply incredible. I used zebrawood for that one.

But then The Speaker Project released the R and I was hooked. I built them out of Wenge using pre-assembled crossovers. The sound is stunning. The tweeter is oh so sweet. It's hard to describe really... best I can say is there is a crispness and tightness to the sound. The base is exceptional but not overpowering. Atlas was so helpful and no question was to hard to answer even while he was on holiday in Europe. I do realise these are costly, so I am happy to offer anyone in Sydney a listen before you buy. I am based in the Bondi Junction area. Atlas can provide you my details."

Kevin Sher - Google reviews

Out of any I’ve ever owned, have just blown me away for their crystal clarity, depth and warmth of sound - they colour the music just as I imagine the artist would want it to be heard.

Thank you Atlas for introducing me to an amazing new listening experience. These speakers are for life.

WARM YET DETAILED

The Trohet R reveals fine detail without becoming bright or analytical.

Its subtle warmth and smooth top end make long listening sessions easy, while the low-distortion Revelator drivers preserve the fine detail, texture and space within a recording.

Natural, revealing and enjoyable to listen to.

SCAN-SPEAK REVELATOR

At the heart of the Trohet R are Scan-Speak's 15W/8530K00 woofer and R2904 ring radiator tweeter from the Revelator range.

Their exceptionally low distortion allows fine detail, texture and dynamics to remain clear even as listening levels increase.

How these two drivers work together is determined by the crossover.

ANALOGUE CROSSOVER

The Trohet R's crossover is designed to make the two drivers behave as one, creating a coherent sound with precise imaging and a natural tonal balance.

Its 23-component network controls baffle step, woofer breakup and phase integration between the drivers.

The complexity is there for one reason: what you hear.

DEEP BASS
COMPACT CABINET

The Trohet R delivers surprising bass depth and weight for a speaker of its size.

Its long-excursion Revelator woofer and carefully tuned rear port extend the measured response to 45 Hz, with typical in-room bass extension reaching approximately 35 Hz.

Small speaker. Proper bass.

CHOOSE YOUR TIMBER

Make the Trohet R your own with a choice of Alder, Oak or Mahogany.

Each timber gives the speaker a distinctly different character while retaining the same acoustic design and performance.

BUILDING THE TROHET R

You don't need to be an experienced speaker builder to build the Trohet R.

Step-by-step video instructions guide you through cabinet assembly, finishing and final installation.

The crossover is the most technical part, so you can build it yourself or have us assemble and test it for you.

If you get stuck, we're here to help.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED IN ONE BOX

No searching for compatible parts or trying to work out what you need.

We supply the matched Scan-Speak drivers, crossover components, internal wiring, terminals, ports, damping and hardware required to build your speakers.

Pre-machined cabinet flat packs, tools and pre-assembled crossovers can be added depending on how much of the build you want to take on yourself.

REFERENCE FREQUENCY RESPONSE

The TROHET's have a frequency response of +-2 dB between 100-20KHz. The frequency range below 700 hertz is 1 dB above the median response level, which provides warmth and body for musical enjoyment.

SPL

THE INVERSE RESPONSE

This graph shows the response when the tweeter is measured 180° out of phase. The deeper the "null", the better the phase tracking. Phase is an often-overlooked part of speaker design, where many just focus on the frequency response. In my experience, a speaker is only great when both phase and frequency are optimised.

IMPEDANCE RESPONSE

The graph also shows the impedance response,  which demonstrates a moderately easy speaker to drive, it may not be suitable for all tube amps, but any solid state will be able to drive these speakers. The key features of the impedance response are detailed below;

  • The ported cabinet tuning frequency is shown to be 39 Hz.

  • The nominal impedance is 8Ω between 1Hz - 20kHz.

  • Max impedance of 26.85Ω @ 71 Hz.

  • Min impedance of 5.05Ω @ 383 Hz.

  • Max electrical phase shift of 40° @ 774 Hz.

  • Min electrical phase shift of -52.31° @ 90 Hz.
